End-of-Life Doula Training

Our End-of-Life Doula program is designed to prepare attendees with the tools to assist those transitioning from life to death and how to adequately support their loved ones. This 40-hour training provides prospective doulas with information about death and dying, grieving, hospice, and palliative care, as well as specific hands-on experience creating vigils, legacy projects, and tools to provide compassionate care to those at the end of life. Attendees will know what to expect physically, emotionally, and spiritually when a person’s health declines.

In addition to the classroom experiences, participants will observe and shadow hospice professionals during in-home visits to contextualize their learning and explore more deeply their relationship to grief and death. Participants will explore the role of the Doula within the wider scope of end-of-life care as well as personal responses doulas may experience in the presence of dying people. Special attention is paid to ongoing self-care and creating a holistic approach to compassionate presence. Upon completing this training, participants will be invited to engage in fieldwork, including individual coaching and group discussions.
